As the temperatures start to drop here in Alaska and the seasons begin to change we are always faced with a choice. Do we embrace the oncoming and typically quick fall and have positive thoughts about winter or do we moan and groan any chance we get and complain about the rain, the cold and the snow that we know is on the way?
The truth is, this mindset, these choices, our perspective, doesn't have to change like the seasons. We have to start looking at every single day we have from a slightly different angle. You ALWAYS have choice, no matter what the temperature is outside. You have the choice to wake up and be excited about your day. You have the choice to use the spare hour you have scrolling through Instagram, or mixing in a quick workout or walk. You have the choice to choose to take an extra 15 minutes to prepare your own lunch to take to work, or to swing in the nearest fast-food near you mid-day.
So often in our society now it's become the norm to say "I don't have..." or "I can't..."
"I don't have enough time."
"I don't have enough money."
"I just can't wake up early, I'm not a morning person."
"I can't, I don't have energy, I work all day."
You are CHOOSING these. And by saying, or even thinking them you are allowing them to define who you are, what you do, and your ability to BE.
I hear quite often from people on social media or even face to face, "I can't workout, or take class it's just too expensive." ....and then they post pictures of the specialty coffees they drink all week and the plane tickets for their next vacation.
Let me start here, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS. I love my Perfect Start americanos as much as the next girl! But, hear me out, life is not happening to you...you are making choices, it is such a powerful action to choose what you want in your life. But you have to ask yourself this, are the choices you are making lining up with your goals, your wants, the idea you have in your head of what "success" is in your life? If they're not, it can feel like you're stuck on a hamster wheel, running and expending energy from day to day yet constantly getting nowhere. That can feel pretty disheartening.
But one of the greatest things about the ability to choose and having choices, in an instant you can simply, choose something else.
Choose the positive thought.
Choose the healthy food option.
Choose to put your phone down when you get home from work and just breathe.
Choose to take your dog on a walk without scrolling Instgram or posting a boomerang.
Choose to commit to 1 workout a week.
I'll say it again, life is not happening to you, you are in control, you are creating this life, and what a beautiful one it is shaping up to be, or could be... if you choose.
